The First $3M Photograph

Posted on: 8 March 2007

Did you see it! Pop Photo announced it!

“…Andreas Gursky’s 99 cent II, Diptych, sold to an unnamed private collector for £1,700,000, or $3,346,456. The price represents a new record for a photo set at auction….”

Wikipedia defines a diptych as, “any object with two flat plates attached at a hinge.” In the world of photography a diptych is usually defined as an image made up of two smaller, separate images arranged horizontally or vertically. Always, the images are similar in nature.

This is not the first time Gursky’s photographs have fetched amounts in the millions.
