The Art of Photography Show is an established and critical force in the world of contemporary photography. Now in its 8th year, this presentation of world class photography is truly exquisite. The show provides tangible benefits to artists trying to break into the public eye. This well thought out international exhibition provides value to artists at every turn, from first-rate viewing in the judging process to exhibition and publication opportunities, photo industry connections and monetary awards.

Show Highlights:

  • $10,000 in award money will be given to artists in the Art of Photography Show 2012.
  • Over 1,500 people will attend the Opening Reception Gala on Saturday September 29th. Our attendees are a mix of art collectors, high net worth residents, advertising executives, architects & designers, executives of major San Diego corporations and government leaders.
  • A superb 76 page show catalog will be given to everyone at the Opening Reception Gala and is made available for free at each special event during the exhibition.
  • We sell a very large percentage of the work, of which the artists receive most of the revenue.
  • We donate 100% of our portion of the art sales revenue to the San Diego Art Institute.

Our great love of this art form prompts us to ‘pull out all of the stops’ in order to showcase a truly excellent presentation of photography, to provide substantial benefits to the exhibiting artists, and to elevate and promote this art form.

Popular Photography announces their travel and adventure photo contest. So what is a travelographer?

Travelographers make their travel plans with a purpose. They’re an active group that prefers to visit places that are off the beaten path and don’t mind paying extra to do so. They travel for adventure, photography and to broaden themselves culturally. Does that sound like you or someone you know? Enter your most outstanding travel photographs, sponsored by Popular Photography and American Photo. Winners will be selected by a panel of distinguished judges and will be published in upcoming issues of Popular Photography and American Photo.

Enter online May 1 – August 30, 2010. There is a ten dollar ($10) fee to submit one (1) photograph into the contest, and a fifteen dollar ($15) fee to submit two (2) to five (5) photographs to enter the contest.

Get more details at PopPhoto.

Via the National Portrait Gallery:

Submissions are now being invited for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2010, ‘the leading international photographic portrait competition’, which celebrates and promotes the very best in contemporary portrait photography. Entry is open to photographers from around the world, aged 18 and over.

Organised by the National Portrait Gallery, the Prize has established a reputation for its diversity of photographic styles, encompassing editorial, reportage and fine art images submitted by a range of photographers, from gifted amateurs and photography students to professionals.

The winner will receive £12,000. Entries must be received by July 18, 2010.

A couple days ago Midwest Photo Exchange began their Time and Timelessness Photo Contest. It’s a Nikon photo contest from MPIX with some great prizes:

  1. Nikon D5000 Kit
  2. Nikon Coolpix S70
  3. Nikon Coolpix L22

The theme of the contest is shutter speed so this is a great opportunity to show what you can do with varying shutter speeds.

Images are timeless. In this regard, we decided to make this competition about some of the most fundamental aspects
of photography; filtering light through aperture and the speed of a shutter, to produce timeless images ‘frozen’ in time. While
we leave the title open to interpretation, we will judge the first place winner based on the creative use of shutter speed and
aperture.

You may submit up to 3 photos until the submission deadline of May 24, 2010. Files can be .JPG, .PNG or .GIF and not larger than 3 MB. Winners will be announced on June 7, 2010. And Canon users, don’t fret, it’s not mandatory that you shoot with a Nikon. For more information, check out the contest page here.

There’s still time to submit your photos to the most recent JPG Photo Challenge. I’ve had my share of commutes and have driven in the early morning (early enough to watch the sun rise) and late at night (after a long day at work).

For this photo challenge take a deeper look at the things you pass by regularly, whether it’s on your path to work or on your way to grab coffee. Even though you see these things all the time doesn’t make them any less photogenic!

To see some of the submissions so far or to add your own,go to the JPG website. But hurry because the last day to enter is May 7th!

If you want to get really creative you can try the other current JPG Photo Challenge: Messed Up.

It might be your bad hair day, or your kid’s room that never stays clean, either way, capture the instances where things are messed up.

It you are interested in the “Messed Up” challenge you have until May 14th to submit. Check out the JPG website for this theme here.
